Is Your Child Clumsy?
- Typically these children are described as “clumsy” and may also have difficulties or delays with expressive language
- They may or may not have a diagnosis of Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD).
DCT Assessment
The child’s motor coordination skills are assessed using a variety of methods which may include:
- Parent interview
- Standardized assessment tools
- Clinical assessment of functional skills by a paediatric physiotherapist and occupational therapist

DCT Intervention
Once the assessment has been completed the therapists will discuss the findings with the parents to determine the appropriate service needs which may include:
- Intervention goals are established by parents in collaboration with the team (eg. Print name, ride trike, etc.)
- Direct individual or group therapy with a therapist or the therapy aide for defined time period
- Parent education regarding strategies for ongoing skill acquisition and appropriate community activities.
- A home program monitored by the therapist
- Consultation between the therapist and parent or
- Discharge with activity recommendations
