ECE Outreach Programs

ECE services at KidsAbility are funded by the Region of Waterloo, through our membership in the child care Special Needs Resourcing Partnership (provide link).   ECE services participate in Raising the Bar on Quality.

There are no fees for any ECE services offered by KidsAbility.

ECE Outreach is a service that promotes and supports the inclusion of children who have special needs or disabilities in community preschool or day care programs.

With the goal of achieving a successful day care placement for each child, Resource Consultants:
  • assist parents to learn about the child care system, fee subsidies and the potential benefits of child care for their child
  • carry out developmental screening assessments
  • work with the parents and Early Childhood Educators in the community program to develop effective teaching strategies for each child’s Individual Service Plan
  • consult to the child care program once the child has begun to attend
  • provide information about other services and the school system
  • assist the family in getting other services eg. additional classroom support or referrals to other services
  • loan toys and materials to the classroom as needed
  • help with the child’s entry into the school system
Referrals
  • Eligibility is from 0 – 6 years, up to entry into Grade One
  • Parents can make referrals for Resource Consultation services by calling the child care Special Needs Access Point (SNAP) at 519-741-0076
  • Referrals can also be made by KidsAbility staff with the consent of the parent
