Stay and Play Integrated Social Skills Group is a Partnership between KidsAbility and St. Joseph's Health Care Speech Language Pathology services.
- Stay & Play Integrated Social Skills group is offered at St. Joseph's Health Centre in Guelph
- It is a partnership between KidsAbility and St. Joseph's Speech Language services
- This is a program for children aged 3-5 years with significant social communication needs
- The children participate in structured activities on a typical child care routine with different social skills targeted each week
- Parents attend a parent education group run concurrently to the children’s sessions
- Children bring a peer friend with them to the program to help by drawing on their natural strengths and showing how to start play and by responding to others in play
- Child care and school teachers are also invited to attend the program to work with the children in the session and learn hands-on training techniques to take back to their classroom settings
Eligibility
Children must be clients of:
- KidsAbility (Guelph-Wellington program)
- St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Guelph
- Trellis Mental Health and Developmental Services
- Children must be Ages: 3 to 5 years
- Have significant social communication needs, who would benefit from a structured intervention group
