Wait List Management

Due to the tremendously long wait lists for most services we have to prioritize how we respond in some cases.

KidsAbility offers a number of parent groups and  programs to help manage the anxiety of having your child on a waiting list for an assessment (e.g. Coffee Hours).

When ever possible we will try to engage you in a group  program that will provide you with some coping or teaching strategies you can do at home while you wait for treatment (e.g. The Learning Journey for parents of a child with Autism).

If your child has complex needs there is typically an attempt to try and proceed in one discipline (e.g. occupational therapy)  that can help provide a focus while you wait for another therapy.

Peer-to-peer parent support can also help you manage the wait depending on the circumstances. The Waterloo Region Family Network (WRFN) will assist you in connecting with other parents that may have a child with a similar diagnosis.
