KidsAbility therapy staff were invited to submit proposals for a Best Practice Pilot Project; 10 excellent proposals were submitted. Four proposals about current practices were
selected to be documented.
The four staff members whose projects were selectedwere each given one day per week over 10 weeks, or equivalent, to complete their project.
KidsAbility used a template and process defined by the Ontario Association of Children’s Rehabilitation Services(OACRS).
The project also required a submission to the Best Practice Committee of OACRS for inclusion on the OACRS website.
The four completed projects submitted to OACRS in 2009 included:
- Review current practice of teaching social skills to preschoolers using a program called Stay and Play Integrated Social Skills Group, created and provided by Sarah Brown, OT and Heidi Emrich, SLP.
- Review of the 5-step priority rating system in Seating & Mobility completed by Johanne Hand.
- Review of the multi-disciplinary team approach for children with complex needs in KidsAbilitySchool completed by Rebecca Thompson.
- Investigating telephone assessment and counselling and the implications for SW practice documented by Rebecca Erickson.
NOTE: To access the Best Practices on the OACRS site you must be a registered OACRS member.
