Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation Clinic

This service is only available in Guelph and you must be on the KidsAbility caseload

Overview
  • Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation Clinics typically occur once a week at the Guelph site
  • Clients are scheduled for 60-minutes for the  initial assessment and 45-minutes for subsequent visits
  • Documentation regarding client’s previous involvement with KidsAbility and with other service providers will be obtained prior to the initial visit by each client

The purpose of the Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation Clinic is to:

  • Provide a comprehensive assessment of client’s physical and functional issues
  • Provide regular updates to stretching programs for home
  • Provide communication with physicians and other service providers regarding client’s physical status, including range of motion and strength
  • Provide recommendations regarding adapted devices (e.g. bicycles)  
  • Provide recommendations regarding personal assistive devices, such as feeding, dressing, hygiene and grooming aides
  • Provide support for letters requesting funding

Role of the Physiotherapist
  • The client will be assessed by the physiotherapist at the Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation Clinic to determine current functional and physical status
  • The physiotherapist focuses on a client’s gross motor skills, trunk and lower extremity range of motion and movements
  •  Based upon the assessment, the physiotherapist may formulate clinical recommendations regarding the client’s physiotherapy program, including updates to stretching and strengthening exercises, positioning and gross motor activities
  • Clinical recommendations may also be made regarding orthotics or other equipment

Role of the Occupational Therapist
  • The client will be assessed by the occupational therapist at the Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation Clinic to determine current functional and physical status
  • The Occupational Therapist focuses on a client’s fine motor skills, their trunk and upper extremity range of motion and movements
  • Based upon the assessment, the occupational therapist may formulate clinical recommendations regarding the client’s occupational therapy program including updates to stretching and strengthening exercises, positioning and functional activities
  • Clinical recommendations may also be made regarding personal assistive devices, such as feeding, dressing, hygiene and grooming aides
