Our History

The History of Section 68 School in Waterloo Region is as follows:

1955
  •  Kitchener Cerebral Palsy School Board
  •  Located within KW Hospital in Kitchener
  •  Began with 6 students
1956
  •  School relocated to North Waterloo Society for Crippled Children building on King Street in Kitchener, which became The Rotary Children’s Centre.
1961
  •  School name changed to North Waterloo Children’s Centre Board of Education.
1995
  •  School location changed to 500 Hallmark Drive in Waterloo, with the opening of the new treatment centre.
1998
  •  School name changed to Rotary Centre School Authority
2000
  •  School name changed to Rotary Children’s Centre School Authority.
2003
  •  School expanded to a second site within the Cambridge Rotary Children’s Centre site. 
  •  One additional classroom with 16 children added. 
  •  Total of 80 children in Waterloo and Cambridge. 
  •  School name changed to KidsAbility School Authority when the Centre changed its name to KidsAbility-Centre for Child Development.
2006
  •  Opened a second classroom at the Cambridge site with an additional 18 children.
2010
  •  KidsAbility School continues to provide special education programs in six classrooms located in the Waterloo and Cambridge sites of KidsAbility Centre for Child Development.
