Centre of Excellence

The Centre of Excellence has provided KidsAbility with a place to advance the priorities identified by our stakeholders in the strategic plan.

The Centre of Excellence is the umbrella under which KidsAbility can consider organizational excellence beyond rehabilitation and intervention services, treatment plans and direct clinical service to our clients and their families.
It is a place where we share knowledge, expertise and build partnerships that will support the life journey of the thousands of children with special needs in our community.

An inclusive journey to adulthood for children with special needs requires community collaboration, sharing best practices, knowledge sharing, and raising the general level of understanding of ‘special needs’. All of this helps build the capacity of the broader community to support their journey.

Some exciting new partnerships for us include:
  • Scotiabank  Group has chosen to support the Centre of Excellence with a five year gift.
  • Waterloo Region Family Network . Visit their website at http://waterlooregionfamilynetwork.com/wordpress/. Stay tuned for information about a parent-to-parent network in Guelph Wellington in 2011.
  • McMaster’s DeGroote School of Medicine: Our Affiliation Agreement with McMaster provides Medical Residents an opportunity to work with a broad spectrum of complex special needs, in an inter-professional team. We believe we are helping to build their understanding of what is required to “support the life journey” when they become family physicians. Some family physicians never meet or treat a child with special needs until they have one as a patient
  • School of Pharmacy, University of Waterloo: Our partnership provides groups of pharmacy students with an insight into the complexities of a journey with a child with special needs – they will serve these families as community pharmacists.
