From April 16-17, KidsAbility took part in the Empowered Kids Ontario (EKO) Spring Symposium, an annual event that brings together organizations from across the province dedicated to improving the lives of children with disabilities and developmental differences.

This year, the Rocket Discovery Centre team from KidsAbility presented exciting research in pediatric rehabilitation. Brendan Wylie-Toal, Director of Innovation and Research, delivered an engaging presentation on Concurrent Studies on AI and Large Language Models in Clinical Documentation. His work, conducted in collaboration with the University of Waterloo and University of Guelph, examines the challenges and potential benefits of AI adoption in Child Treatment Centres.

Cynthia Lennon, Clinical Innovation Specialist, Sue Gibson, Client Access Associate Director, and Samantha Noyek, a postdoctoral fellow at McMaster University, showcased the successful implementation of ENVISAGE, a family-centred program designed to empower caregivers of children with developmental differences. Their poster highlighted the program’s significant impact on family engagement and caregiver confidence within KidsAbility’s services.

Reflecting on the event, Cynthia Lennon noted the inspiring and motivating creative solutions developed by colleagues in the sector. Brendan Wylie-Toal praised the informative sessions and invaluable side conversations, expressing gratitude to Empower Kids Ontario for hosting the event and providing opportunities for meaningful engagement.

KidsAbility is proud of its contributions to advancing pediatric rehabilitation and remains committed to ensuring that children and families receive the support they need.
