EVENT DETAILS:
Managing My Emotions - Waterloo - BSS Social Skills Group
1 Managing My Emotions was adapted from Leah Kupyers’ The Zones of Regulation (2011)
curriculum and is designed to build upon the skills developed through the Embracing
My Emotions group. This group will focus on the development and improvement
in the knowledge and application of priority emotional regulation skills.
Children will continue to regularly identify situations and corresponding
emotions as well as engage in learning and application of the use of practical
thinking strategies that will support self-regulation and coping with difficult
feelings.
To improve emotional regulation
skills through:
- Behaviour Skills Training on topics
(instruction, modelling, rehearsal, feedback)
- Prompting and reinforcement to teach priority
goals each session
- Data collection to assess acquisition of
priority goals
Group Goals:
- Identify self-calming
tools and create a tool box of a variety of sensory supports and calming
techniques
- Learn and identify a
variety of thinking strategies, such as “size of the problem”, “inner
critic/inner coach”, “STOP, OPT and GO”, “Rock Brain vs. SuperFlex”
- Practise
self-regulation by utilizing tools (from any category) in situations where the
child is experiencing Yellow, Blue or Red Zone emotions
