Recreation Equipment Loan

 

Therapeutic Recreation Services operates an equipment loan service to support your child in their recreational activity.


How do I access this equipment?

  • This equipment is available for loan on either a short term or longer term basis
  • Cost: $2 for a short term (single use or trial) or $5 per month
  • To access a piece of equipment, contact your Recreation Therapist
  • Your Recreation Therapist can help you select appropriate equipment, and assist with adaptations if necessary

Junior Freedex

Designed for an easy entry, this recumbent style trike has a low centre of gravity for additional stability. Handles can also be pulled forward for a caregiver to steer "wagon style." Seat is adjustable. Generally suited for cyclists ages 5-11.

  

Senior Freedex

Designed for an easy entry, this recumbent style trike has a low centre of gravity for additional stability.. Handles can also be pulled forward for a caregiver to steer "wagon style." Seat is adjustable. Generally suited for cyclists ages 10-adult.

  
 

Rifton Ranger (medium)

A medium sized adapted tricycle for children with physical disabilities. Provides a riding experience with an upright posture. Appropriate for children with an inseam of approximately 22" - 28".

A small sized adapted tricycle for children with physical disabilities. Provides a riding experience with an upright posture.  

  

Adam's Trail-A-Bike

This bike attaches to the seat post of a parent's bicycle. Two options available - with and without back rest. For children up to 85 lbs. 

  
 

Freedom Stroller

Does your child fatigue easily? This stroller is suitable for a large child or a small teen/adult, and is designed to carry up to 200lbs. Large wheels make it comfortable for riders and easy to push on outdoor trails. Alternate front wheels allow for more maneuverability indoors or in busy environments like amusement parks. Special thanks to Naomi for this generous donation.  

  
 


Sledges- Adjustable

Used for skating or playing hockey in a seated position.Child and youth/adult sizes available. Handles allow sledge to be pushed, or can be self propelled with sticks. For skaters with decreased mobility or compromised balance.

 
  
 


Sledge- Adjustable Tilt Back

Used for skating or playing hockey in a seated position. One size fits all. Handles allow sledge to be pushed, or can be self propelled with sticks. This version has a back rest that can adjust from verticle to 120 degrees. For skaters with decreased mobility or compromised balance. 

  
 


Bob Skates

Two-bladed skates that strap on to boots. More stable than traditional skates. Good for first time skaters or those who need more stability. Child sizes only. 

  
 


Skating Aides

Several models of skate mates available, including adapted aides for taller skaters. Skaters hold on for additional support and balance when skating. 

  
 


Parallel Push Walker- Skating Aide

These slide well on the ice and provide more stability than traditional skating aides. Perfect for someone who uses a walker and prefers support at their side rather than in front. Child to teen sizes available. 

  
 


Kick Sleds

A popular mode of winter transportation in northern Europe. Great to bring someone for a ride, or as an alternative to cross country skiing. Designed to be used on hard-packed snow. 

  
 


Ice-O-Grip

An attachment for canes and crutches to provide grip on ice. Flips up easily when not in use. 

  
 

The E Z Cast

This rod attaches to a wheelchair, casts with a simple push, and reels back in with the push of a button! 

  

Angler's Aide

Provides support to allow an angler to hold the fishing rod using minimal upper body strength. 

  
 

Wet Vest

A neoprene vest with built in flotation designed to support a swimmer upright in the water at neck level. Allows for a greater freedom of mobility in the water compared to traditional life jackets. An inflatable collar is also available to support the head and neck in the water. 

  

Head Float

Supports the swimmers head above water to allow for complete freedom of movement for the rest of the body.  Size small (20-30lbs, float is 1 1/2" thick) and large (60 - 175lbs, float is 3 1/4 inches thick) available. 

  

PFD-A

This adapted life jacket maintains the swimmer in a horizontal position on their back.  Appropriate for children 30-45 lbs. 

  

LJ-A

This adapted life jacket maintains the swimmer in a vertical position in the water. 

  

Get Active Backpack

A great way to bring accessible family fun to a backyard or park near you! Contains outdoor toys such as frisbees, balls and even rubber chickens that are easy to throw and catch, as well as ideas for games.  

  

Knitting Aide

Stabilizes one knitting needle to allow the knitter to knit using one hand, or both hands guiding one needle. Attaches easily to any table. 

  

Bowling/Boccia Ramp

A wooden ramp to assist people who cannot throw the ball to play boccia or go bowling. Ramp is generally used from a seated position.
